I never really got the chance to write about my hospitalization last week. Yup. I was hospitalized for two days. I had just arrived at work Monday morning when I experienced the most excruciating stomach pain ever. My coworker rushed me to the emergency room and there, I waited until the doctors came, poked me, took my blood, pressed my tummy, and decided if I would die or not. Finally, they told me to stay overnight for observation. It took about 8 hours before the hospital found a vacant bed for me. I was placed in a ward with four other patients. In the morning, I had an ultrasound so they could check for gall stones. I hate medical checkups. The way they ask you to expose parts of your body embarrasses me to death. I know doctors don't give a hoot about what they see. But I still feel my face burning red during the examination. Anyway, to make a long story short, doctors found nothing serious and said it was just an non-ulcer dyspepsia. I only needed proper diet (sorry..I HAD skipped meals so often), and medicine. They sent me home Tuesday night.
Well, since it was a first time, I learned some things while I was at the hospital. While we live, we learn, right?
Here are some of the things I realized while I was there:
- Hospital food only looks good. But it actually tastes bland. Nothing there.
- Emergency rooms are not always bloody and crazy like they show in the movies. My case was probably the worst that time. I was the only one vomiting my head off. Others had simple headaches and fever.
- When your mom says "wear nice underwear when you go out, just in case of an accident", OBEY HER!
- People still think of taking pictures for FB, even while they're in the ER. The patient in the next bed even had one big group picture with her friends. Um..picnic mode?
- Male nurses have the fairest and lightest hands ever. Hands were almost feminine! I felt ashamed. :P
- It is surprising for nurses when you have the courage to watch them stick a needle in your arm. (I'm the man!)
- A mom is still the one who can comfort you the most when you're on your sickbed. :)
Now, I'm feeling a bit better, but my diet sucks. Crackers and rice porridge everyday! But when I think about the pain, I dutifully eat each bite. :) I'd hate to have a second experience.
